@peter_teohts I have an SMSF for exactly this reason, I have absolute control over what every cent is invested in.

Are you stating that your VAS has gone up that much, you are thinking of selling VAS? Or keeping VAS because it has done so well, and selling other shares to dump the funds into VAS?
Not sure I’d do either unless the shares were rediculously overvalued and something substantial has changed in their outlook šŸ™‚

Chuck it all in. I’ve read a bunch of lump sum vs DCA stuff and it could go either way depending on what you read. Evidence seems to support lump sum over DCA for the very long term, but honestly it making the jump will give you a better net benefit than continuing to sit on it!

The old adage “Time in the market, not timing the market” works well here.

Faced with something similar with the SMSF I didn’t bother DCA, I just heaved the lot in, and if I had my time again.. I’d do exactly the same thing.

Hey Owen Happy New Year! (I think I said it elsewhere, but hey, it’s still January!)

Coming back to your comment in December regarding dropping the live stream and going to a members style Q&A session, how are your deliberations? I think that could be very cool!

Doens’t look too bad, but there’s some serious overlap there. Look at the top holdings of SEMI, IVV and NDQ (especially IVV and NDQ) and you could have inadvertently skewed your assset allocations.

I’d be interested to see your weighting to each one, and the underlying investment strategy that drove those asset allocations.

I’m not sure I’d add anymore to it, but I am a very simple ETF investor. I’d probably get rid of (or definitely not add to) your US exposure and get some more international ex US exposure.

Also, not knowing your age or goals, unless this was an SMSF / Super fund I was looking at I’d get rid of the cash exposure. Again though, without knowing what you are aiming for that’s just my take on it.

    My holdings:

Outside super: 100% high risk (growth/income)

    VAS / IVV / VEU

Inside super: 80% high risk / 20% defensive.

    VAS / IVV / VEU / VAP / IAF / PMGOLD

I am in the process of perusing some satelite holdings in super now that I have the core exactly how I want it.

Great topic! All of my regular social / news feeds are full of “BITCOIN ETF!” bandwagon stuff.

Personally I won’t be touching it. I have a solid core portfolio, I’m actively perusing various satelite options, and a bitcoin ETF won’t be one of them.

    Hi Sophie!

    Happy New Year!

I hold Resmed, have done for quite a number of years. It remains the one standalone equity in my entire gaggle of portfolios (3 kids and wife’s) and it’s done extremely well, even with the recent softness. The entire rest of my exposure is through broad ETFs

I am not in a position to educate myself in regards to satellite holdings, but healthcare would definitely be up there if I did.

    Hey PB!

Do you mind if I ask your age?

My wife and I are 46 / 45, and I am also building an ETF based portfolio, primarily IVV / VAS / VEU (yup that’s where it stops until I have a bit more of a hunt for a few satellites I like)

I’ll be watching your posts with interest.

I had two questions for you, one general and one specific about your investments:

    • Are you maxxing out your Super contributions first before investing outside of it (we’re actively looking at this question ourselves
    • How are you factoring brokerage and CGT costs / losses in your calculations?

I’m having a play with it right now. I will also go play catchup on that Podcast, because I reckon it will be awesome. I’ve had quite a few comms with Navarre, very responsive!

Is the comparison tool directly out of Navexa? Will you be sharing that feedback directly to their team? The only reason I ask is some of the feedback I’ve already provided on their feature request channels šŸ™‚

I have is turned on for all of my ETF holdings. I have been contemplating lately turning it off to assist in adjustment of weight balances, as leaving it on does make that harder to manage.

I am a massive fan of Navexa, and I have said some reasonably disparaging things about SS. As my portfolio is reasonably simple and contains some managed funds, the xray / SS exposure report doesn’t really cut it. I made a good spreadsheet mapping my sector exposure which works well enough for me. The inclusion of this functionality in SS won’t be enough for me to subscribe to it. I am actually a Morningstar subscriber which means I get SS as part of it, and I still don’t use it šŸ˜›

Back when I looked at individual stocks more closely I used Simply Wall St.

Enjoyed it quite a lot. I still go and have a squiz periodically, but I don’t subscribe to it anymore.

Navexa 3.0 is out, and it has had some amazing changes done to it. I highly recommend having another look at it if you haven’t already!

I have a referral, no idea if I am allowed to advertise that fact, but it’s easier to seek forgiveness than permission. Most of the time šŸ˜›
